Bachelor of Fine Arts

Designed to give students a broad visual arts education and to provide a foundation for a career in fine arts. The Bachelor of Fine Arts is designed to give students a broad visual arts education and to offer them a wide range of possible disciplines in which to undertake a major program of study. The course requires a commitment to studio-based study, and also offers learning supported by a substantial program in art and design theory. There are opportunities for specialised study in various disciplines, all of which are informed by a rigorous and challenging ongoing theoretical debate. Majors may be undertaken in a range of studio practices. Students may also choose to do an art and design theory major in which they specialise in units from the Art Theory program and are eligible to enrol in a number of units cross-listed from other disciplines in the Faculty of Arts.
The program develops general abilities in the following areas: - Visual thinking: the ability to analyse and discuss images, form and experience; Visual, verbal and written expression; Self expression; Creative problem solving; Generating and evaluating a range of ideas; Ability to research and acquire new technical skills as required for visual problem solving; Awareness and global perspective of the role and function of visual art and design in contemporary culture.

Entry Requirements

Admission to this undergraduate course requires qualifications equivalent to the 12th year of schooling in Australia or equivalent, Applicants must achieve the required grade in their studies, meet prerequisite subjects and the English language requirements to be eligible for an offer. International applicants: Portfolio and curriculum vitae are essential requirements, and minimum IELTS test score of 6.0 (with no band less than 5.5); or TOEFL test score of 213 (CB); 80 (iBT); or 550 (PB) or an acceptable ELICOS score, or equivalent.
