Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design

The Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design course provides a broad range of skills and knowledge for use in the field of Graphic Design. The course aims to provide a broad range of skills and knowledge in the graphic arts and design field and to develop the ability to create design work appropriate to industry needs and standards; and develop an ability to plan and select appropriate services and techniques for the graphic arts and design industry. Students are given the chance to develop their design skills and work in areas such as corporate branding, fashion, packaging, web and multimedia design, as well as working towards developing their personal style.
The emphasis on completion of industry jobs and strong promotion of vocational studies finds students enrolled in the course completing design work of a high standard. Students graduating from Holmesglen's Graphic Design program are industry ready, with strong practical skills. The Diploma of Graphic Design is incorporated into the Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design. Students who satisfactory complete the Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design with an average ‘c’ (credit) pass or above are guaranteed entry into the second year of the Bachelor of Graphic Design at La Trobe University, Bendigo campus.

Entry Requirements

Good passes at Year 12 level or the overseas equivalent (including passes in Art and Design) and preferably some relevant work experience; for academic purposes a minimum IELTS test score 5.5; or TOEFL test score of 525 (PB), 197 (CB) or 71 (iBT) or equivalent.

Skills recognition

This course is recognised by Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA).On successful completion of this course student will be eligible to receive the Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design and the Diploma of Graphic Design. Students may be able to shorten the length of their chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQTF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen 

Career Outcomes

Graduates may apply for work in graphic arts and design field, creating Designs in response to organisation’s requirement or pursue a career as a freelance Designer; or apply to university for further study at undergraduate level with advanced standing. Articulation may be possible to a variety of degree courses, usually assessed on an individual basis.
